Raskard walked toward the hotel. He felt the cold air around. His jacket was open. He couldn't close it anymore. The last attack of a demon caused it. The left side of his jacket was ripped into pieces. His stomach was visible. Also three scratches. They weren't bleeding anymore. They were sewed. Five days ago he was allowed to take away the bandage. And now he had enough money to go to a hotel. The stitches... He would drag them out himself. Why should he waste money on a doctor? 'In the room there should be something sharp.'
He was already shivering when he reached the hotel. The last night he didn't get sleep. He didn't sleep. At fist a nightmare kept him awake. Knowing that they may wouldn't accept him, he went into the building. He knew that his guns were visible as well. He couldn't hide them. If his jacket was longer he would have had problems in reaching his guns. Even if it was just a second too late. This second could decide about life and death! So he accepted his fate. He had to accept that some hotels wouldn't accept a gunman like him. Even if would have kept swearing that his guns didn't fire on kind hearted persons. Well, he just wanted a room.
The young man behind the counter had no hair. He had brown eyes. Eyes which wanted money. Another demon! A demon created by humans. Raskard looked at the man. I'd like a room for a night. Exactly this night. The hairless man didn't say a word. He just gave him a bill. It said a large number to pay. You were here yesterday and you didn't pay. Raskard took the bill and checked it. This can't be mine. He passed the bill to the other man. Yesterday, I was on the way to your little town. And I arrived just a few minutes ago. I was not able to get those items. You must be kidding. The hairless man behind the counter took a gun. Okay, stranger! You don't pay, you don't live! Some guests in the hotel began to scream. Raskard just sighed. Fire. Before I do! Then a bullet flew through the air. Blood and the pieces of a gun... Raskard didn't care about the billet which was stained with blood. He put away his gun. You don't give service, you don't bother strangers. Rest in pieces. Then he wanted to left the hotel. 'I hate those fools...'

Euphemia was walking past the hotel on the hunt when she heard yelling voices, followed by a gunshot. She almost ignored it- she was hungry, after all, and busting up a fight wasn't exactly her idea of fun. But, knowing that the sound would replay over and over in her head until she went to check it out, she sighed and adjusted her path toward the hotel. Slender, pale tan fingers gripped the handle and pulled it open so that she could step inside the building.
The scent of death assailed her nose; gore and blood strongly permeated the air. It made her stomach both rumble and turn- the scent of blood made her hungry, but the gory, too-sweet scent of the rest of the body disgusted her. Hazel eyes shifted all around the lobby, ignoring the men and women who pushed past her to get out and away; no doubt going to find another hotel. Poor things...Running away from a madman with a gun and into the arms of either vampires or werewolves. What a lovely alternative..she thought with a shake of her head.
Leaning against the doorjamb, she eyed the man who obviously had been the shooter. "You certainly know how to make an entrance, don't you?"She commented in a calmly sarcastic tone.

Raskard looked at the woman near the door. He just stayed where he was. I just cleaned up a bit. This fool tried to trick me. Then he pulled a gun. Like he was saying "Be tricked or dead." Well, I just answeared. I didn't want one of the two possibilities. The demon hunter walked toward her. And now I'll try the next hotel. I just want to have a room for the night, that's all. Then he walked toward her, passing the door and left the hotel. Raskard knew that he was handsome for one or the other woman, but not more. He was a demon hunter, always living as a nomad, as a vagabond. He was a stranger and strangers were not very welcome. But he knew how to fulfill that 'scheme'. Killing demons was his job, but killing filthy humans not. He just did it. His guns allowed him to kill the bad souls, but they spared the good souls.
Then he stopped, looked back at the woman. Am I right if I guess that you want to follow me?, he asked with a friendly voice. He smiled a bit. That woman was handsome, but he also knew that she may could want to kill him... Or maybe she wanted to torture him - and he just ran into the trap!

Euphemia did her best to ignore the splatters of blood beyond where the man had been standing before, hunger rumbling in her belly even as she battled the need to get out of the hotel. The other scents were tickling her nose and she didn't like them, but she was too interested in the man with the weapons to just back out. She was curious about him. "Well, that's fair. He would've killed you if you hadn't killed him." She said with a little shake of her head and click of her tongue, "Really sad how violent these humans can be.."
As the man passed her to exit the hotel, she straightened away from the door and let it close behind them, effectively cutting of the scents emenating from the dead body beyond. Responding to his friendly smile with an equally friendly expression, she sighed and shook her head slightly. "As much fun as that sounds, I had better not until I have my dinner. Or else I might bite."she gave alittle giggle and a wink as if she were joking, but she was deadly serious.

Raskard listened to her words. Do you mean that you are not a human? The young hunter put his hand on one of his guns. She was friendly and didn't attack him right now. 'Shall I share a room with her? I would need hours to drag out the stitches...' Was he afraid of doing this? Raskard looked at her. If you want to follow me: 'Death' as a single number and you will know where I am.
One of his little word games... It worked in a simple way. Every letter had to be put into a number. This meant:
D = 4 E = 5 A = 1 T = 20 H = 8
And then the numbers had to be added.
4+5+1 = 10 20+8 = 28 10+28 = 38 3+8 = 11. Eleven was not a single number ...
Raskard knew that the young woman would think about his little code. He also knew that not everyone would understand that. The young man walked toward the next hotel. Without a goodbye. 'If she wants to come she has to think...' Then he looked at her, before he went into the hotel. There he ordered his room. And there they gave him the room.
'Now it's just waiting...'

"I was once."Euphemia responded with a small laugh and a shake of her head, dim light glinting off the edge of one pearly white fang. "But no, dear hunter, I am not. But don't worry- I don't have any intention of attacking you." she told him, laughter still in her silvery tones. She didn't blame him for being wary but it still amused her, particularly since he hadn't been able to realize she wasn't human. She liked that, though; she blended in. Hazel eyes blinked at him owlishly when he uttered the word death, but it only made her more curious.
She watched him go, noting the hotel he had chosen, and then moved away into the darkness..It took her less than half an hour to find and secure her prey, easily taking an ordinary, everyday human into her arms and putting them under her thrall. Once they were limp and compliant, it was no trouble at all for her to sink her fangs delicately into their flesh and drink, though avoiding a vein. It was too risky to hit a vein; too likely that they might bleed out. Once she had taken her fill, a swift flick of her tongue ceased the blood flow. She let her prey go and watched the human stumble away, a bit unsteady but mostly unharmed, before she turned back toward the hotel she had seen the hunter go into.
Stepping inside the hotel, she inquired at the front desk about him just to be certain that her calculations had been right. Having them confirmed, she thanked the clerk and walked toward the room- with its one-digit number- and knocked.

Raskard put out his shoes and put away his jacket. The young man put his guns on the little table next to the bed. He knew that he had to loose the stitches in his stomach. 'Somethng sharp...'
Suddenly it knocked. 'Room two. Right, my dear...' He had seen her fangs. But he was about to trust her halfways. The young man went to the door and opened it. He looked at the young woman who had finished her dinner. Come in. Nothing hinders you. Raskard knew that she may could help him. And she was able to see why. Raskard had just got his trousers and the socks. He never had a T-Shirt. Because of that, his upper body was visible. But also the stitches on his stomach...

Euphemia looked him over from top to bottom when he answered the door, wondering why it was that he was trusting her. Why she had even followed him here. Ordinarily she wouldn't do something like that- cute human or not. And he was definitely attractive, but that didn't mean that she would loose focus and let her guard down. Fresh from her dinner, her complexion was slightly more 'alive' than it usually was, hazel eyes dancing with light. She looked like any human would, except for the fangs.
In response to his invitation, she stepped inside the room and let her gaze fixate on his stitches. "Those don't look pleasant. What happened to you?"she wondered, in a tone that was more rhetorical than anything, but he could still have answered if he wanted.

Raskard closed the door and sighed. Well, If you look at my jacket... It was an attack of a demon. Exactly that kind of demon that would torture humans... And this is just the marking he left on my body. I have to loose the stitches. They are older than ten days. The young man looked at her. I also would accept if you didn't agree helping me.

Euphemia stayed near the door as he closed it, leaning idly against the wall next to it as she watched Raskard. "Ah, I see.."she said with an understanding nod. It looked like the demon really had done a number on him, but since he was still alive she assumed he was fairly decent with handling such things. She did, however, look genuinely suprised that he would trust her to help with his stitches. Not many people trusted vampires whom they had just met--or, well, vampires period.
"I'd be happy to help if you really require assistance, Mr..."she paused, realizing she had no clue who he was.

Mr. Delvan. Raskard Delvan. He smiled. I wouldn't dare to make you do something which you don't like. The young man looked into her eyes. Am I allowed to hear your name, too?
Raskard knew that it wouldn't be very painful. He expected that she would use her hands to pull the stitches.
Oh, he remembered when he had been at the doctors! Some assistants had had to hold him down while the doctor treated the wounds. The painkillers were not working. And the doctor had had still problems in treating the wounds!
Raskard knew that these three scratches were not really deep, but they had cut through the skin. The good thing was that Raskard was alive and had killed the demon. His weapons were lying on the table next to the bed. Did he make a mistake and left them out of reach?

She smiled back at him, responding to his introduction with genuine warmth. Dying- in a way- hadn't changed her natural personality, except maybe to make her a tiny bit less shy in situations. She knew she was powerful now, after all. But that didn't keep her from being sincere."That's quite an interesting name, Mr. Delvan. You don't have to worry about that- I wouldn't do anything I didn't choose to and I'm very happy to help."she assured him, willingly looking back into his eyes so he would know she meant every word. "Of course. I'm Euphemia Renard."
Her name had gotten plenty of interesting reactions over time. When she was human it had been normal, but in the times since then the name had dropped off into oblivion. People laughed, or pretended sympathy over a bad name, or were interested by the exotic sound, but the name definitely stood out.
Straightening away from the wall, she moved closer to Raskard, wanting to get a better look at his stitches, to see what she would need to do. But also because she wanted him to be comfortable with her close- if he didn't trust her then she wouldn't be able to even touch him to pull at the stitches.

Raskard smiled. Your surname nearly sounds like my first name. He became nervous when she came closer, but he didn't move an inch. The young man let her come. He knew that his guns were his only weapons. He never thought of buying a knife... Maybe he should have done this! But an old problem of him was that he never had enough money. It was just enough to get food and new bullets. If he was able to get new clothing or a room for the night, he was very lucky.
His stomach muscles were visible. And the three scratches were crossing them. The stitches were telling that the doctor had problems in fixing the wounds. It looked like the doctor had played favorites. As if he hated Raskard.
Suddenly the young hunter felt like a little child. He knew that he needed the help of that woman. And just because he didn't buy a knife... He also thought about her words in the street... "Not a human." 'Werewolf or Vampire? A werewolf wouldn't eat human meat when it's not full moon. A vampiress! Ice on my skin...' Knowing that he would flinch when she would touch him, he waited. He just looked into her eyes. Maybe she would know when he got afraid...

Euphemia smiled in response to his comment and nodded, "It sort of does, I guess."she agreed with a light laugh. She could tell he was nervous so she stopped moving forward, leaving a little over an arm span's reach between them. She didn't want to scare him, after all. It would do nothing but get her hurt since he was the one with more fighting experience.
So she gave him a moment to get used to her approach or to tell her to back off, before moving just the tiniest bit forward again until she could reach out to lightly skim her fingertips over the line of stitches. Her fingers would be cool, but not as cold as they would have been before she had fed. "It looks like your doctor butchered these stitches..This doesn't look like a neat stitching."she told him with a little frown. She didn't know much about modern medicine but she knew that didn't look right. "I think I can get them out without hurting you though."

Raskard let her come closer. He looked at her hand which was coming closer to his stitches. Then he looked at her face. But he flinched when she touched the scars. Nothing else happened. It's because the doctor had problems. They gave me painkillers. Then they wanted to treat my wound. It was painful. The painkillers didn't work. So I tried to get away. Humans are weak, I know. Even with more than three men holding me down the doctor had problems in fixing my wound. If the painkillers had worked the wound would have looked better. Then he looked down at her fingers which were examining his wounds. It was not painful, but it was cold! Not really like ice cubes, but cold enough to scare him.
Thank you. I owe you one.
